Philistia referred to an area that runs from Gaza all the way to Yafa along the south west coast of ancient Palestine. Its inhabitants, the Philistines are thought to have originated from Crete, Greece. Some of the earliest coins were from the Hellenistic period circa 5th - 4th Century BC.
Following the Greek period, ancient Palestine was conquered by the Roman Empire. This Gaza coin is from the Roman period, minted in Gaza in year 275 AD and features the Greek inscription:
